The collection
The largest graphic arts collection in the world
The collection of the National Museum of the Graphic Arts is considered the largest of its kind in the world. Its full inventory numbers thousands of pieces gathered over more than a century by collectors, booksellers and printers.
What makes it unique is not only its size but its breadth: it covers seven centuries and every stage of the craft, from pre-Hispanic clay stamps to the braille typewriter, by way of the first printing press in the Americas and Posada's original work.
On several occasions, authorities, business leaders and institutions showed interest in buying it. It was never sold: its purpose has always been to exhibit it for study and enjoyment.
